The Chief Executive and co-founder of Cardiff-based renewable energy Company, Eco2 has won the ‘Renewables and Cleantech’ category of the Ernst & Young UK Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, and will go on  to the next stage of the UK finals in October.

Winning the London and South region of the awards, David Williams was described by judges as “a pioneer of renewable energy technology” who “has shown great success by taking significant risk in a highly challenging industry”. They went on to say that “David received an original equity of £4m in 2005. Since then, Eco2’s funders have received £82m in net gains”.

David will compete along with 13 other finalists from the evening and the winners of other regional heats to become Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year later this year.

On being selected as a finalist, David said, “I am proud to have come so far in these prestigious awards. We have overcome many challenges as a company, especially in these economic times, and are continuing to deliver successful results.

“It means a lot to me to be recognised for all our hard work, and, as always, I would like to thank the entire Eco2 team for the part they played. We’re looking forward to finding out the overall results in October.”
