Mynydd y Betws

Eco2’s flagship wind project sits near Ammanford in Swansea on Mynydd y Betws.  Its 15 turbines are 110m high to the blade tip and the installed capacity is 34.5MW.

Under the development company Cambrian Renewable Energy Ltd, Eco2 worked with local partners to develop and finance the project.

Consent was granted following a planning appeal in 2008 and the project was financed through a deal with the Irish electricity utility ESBI in 2010.

The project sits on common land and had the support of the Commoners and locals alike.  A substantial community benefit was offered alongside the development which has to date invested in over 50 community led initiatives in the surrounding area.

Fund Chairman Cllr Glynog Davies said: “The Community Benefit Fund gives support to a range of community projects. Many of these would find it hard to come by alternative grants at a difficult time for public finances”
