Job Description

Fuel Manager, Eco2 Management Services Limited, Templeborough

Location: Templeborough Biomass Power Plant, Rotherham

Hours: Full time salaried, 40 hours per week

Reports to: General Manager

Direct Reports: Fuel Team

The Project

Templeborough Biomass Power Plant is a power station in Rotherham which generates renewable electricity using waste wood.  The power station was commissioned in 2019 and is owned by Schroders Greencoat Ltd on behalf of pension fund investors.  The plant is operated and maintained on a 24/7 basis by BWSC.  Around 300,000t of commercial and demolition waste wood is burned each year at the plant, which is supplied by Esken Renewables.

Eco2 Management Services Limited (EMSL) acts as the owner’s manager at the site.  EMSL’s role is to ensure that all contractors, principally BWSC and Esken, discharge their respective contractual obligations in the best interests of the owner.  One of EMSL’s primary duties is to manage the interface between the Operator and Fuel Supplier, ensuring that waste wood is ordered in a timely fashion and that waste wood is compliant with the power station specification.

The Role

The Fuel Manager manages the relationship with Esken Renewables and ensures that the Fuel Supply Agreement is executed in accordance with its terms.  This means setting up, implementing and where necessary refining systems which ensure: waste wood is ordered correctly; deliveries are properly inspected on arrival; delivery paperwork is correct and as required by law; waste wood is adequately tested; fuel is paid for; claims against the fuel supplier are properly administered.  The Fuel Manager needs an understanding of the legislation around waste and the commercial implications of fuel contracting.  The Fuel Manager will need to co-ordinate inspections of the many supply depots which supply Templeborough (around 40) to ensure that Duty of Care obligations under the environmental permit are discharged.

There are likely to be times when the Fuel Manager will need to moderate issues of conflict between stakeholders.  A careful, calm and wise head would be invaluable.
