Operations & Maintenance Technician, Low Carbon Farming

Hours: 40 hours per week with out of hours working as required

Location: Norwich (primary) and Bury St Edmunds

The Project

The Low Carbon Farming (LCF) projects are two large purpose built glasshouses with associated energy centres, one located at Norwich and the other at Bury St Edmunds.

The energy centres supply heat power and carbon dioxide to their greenhouses using water source heat pumps, gas engine CHP units and gas boilers. The ambient heat source for the water source heat pumps in each case is a local water treatment works.

The Role

The key purpose of the Operations & Maintenance Technician role is to carry out preventative maintenance, inspections, general housekeeping and cleaning, minor repairs on plant and equipment, services and buildings.

The Low Carbon Farming (LCF) Operations & Maintenance Technician has the responsibility of assisting the operations team in delivering safe, reliable operation and maintenance of both Low Carbon Farming energy centres.

Working within a small team, the Operations & Maintenance Technician will carry out any duties associated with delivering the required heat, power and carbon dioxide as required by the growers across the two sites This will mean carrying out planned maintenance to optimise equipment availability and responding quickly as required to address issues as they arise, supervising specialist contractors whilst on site and maintaining the highest standards of quality, health, safety and environmental practises.

Competencies

Technical

Essential:

  • 3 plus years in a facilities management role
  • Ability to demonstrate experience of mechanical engineering within a maintenance environment
  • Ability to solve problems, fault find in a systematic way, making effective use of theoretical  knowledge
  • IT literate with experience of using FM Management Information Systems (CAFM), Fiix, Good MS Word and Excel knowledge
  • Experience in dealing with and supervising sub-contractors

Desirable:

  • Formal engineering qualification
  • Valid formal Health & Safety qualification e.g. NEBOSH or IOSH
  • Operational understanding of facilities maintenance and building services within a client focused  environment
